At Stockyard Creek Pioneer Homestead we allow you to bring your Horses and Dogs. We do not supply horses,
but arrangements can be made, should guests wish, to hire
horses and guides.
We do not
charge for horses or dogs, but we ask that care be taken so that weeds are
not inadvertently
brought into the Valley. Please 'empty out' your
horses before travelling and wash down hooves which may
contain seeds. Our
weed eradication program is extensive and expensive each year, so you help
is highly
regarded.
Groups
bringing horses or dogs are reminded that the owners are totally responsible
for their care and feed.
Animals must be within the care of the owner
at all times. Kangaroos can be aggressive towards dogs, so it is
in
everyone's interests that dogs are looked after appropriately. No
animals are permitted inside any part of the
old homestead on the basis that
subsequent guests may be allergic to them.

Round Yard :
We have finished our round yard and its a beauty!..... we even have a viewing area.
Already guests are enjoying the new facility to work their horses and we are now planning to hold horse clinics
with experts in their field.
For more information email Wendy
The round yard at Stockyard has a viewing area, large saddling mounting shed and several small paddocks plus
cattle yards.
There is a viewing area on the left (see below) with seats and the undercover mounting yard behind. The
diameter of the round yard is approximately fifteen metres or fifty feet.
The timber for the yards was sawn and milled from greybox trees which were uprooted in a wind storm on the
family property near Mansfield some years ago. In the Spring of 2008, posts and rails were sawn and milled
using a portable Lucas mill.
The new round yard can be used to exercise horses before going on a ride around Howqua Hills Historic area
or down the Howqua River. It is also intended that weekend demonstrations and clinics be held.

Stockyard guest "Wade" works his horse in the new round yard..
Horse Riding:
Are you
looking for an interesting place to ride your horse? There a number of rides
within the confines of our
400 acre property where guests can experience
varying grades of difficulty. Open paddocks, creek rides, river
crossings and lookouts can all be part of you stay. There are many
tracks which take in well known places like
Fry's Flat, Sheepyard Flat and
Tunnel Bend.
A new track down the Howqua River to Running Creek includes many river crossings. It is a stunning summer
ride, bring your swimming gear.
